Ornate Georgian Emerald Gold Earrings

Fantastic rare Georgian emerald earrings in rich 15-carat gold, a benchmark for high-quality English jewellery at the time. Pre-dating Victorian mass production, these are dainty handmade pieces which would have been labour-intensive to produce, with their intricate gold craftsmanship and the individual setting of 24 square emeralds, also cut by hand.

• Condition: The earrings are in good antique condition with all the emeralds firmly set in place; there is a little solder visible around the top connector on each earring at the back, likely from when they were converted to screw backs.

• Fixing: Later nine-carat gold screw backs suitable for pierced or unpierced ears. These can easily be replaced with simple hooks for pierced ears if required.

• Hallmarks/stamps: The screws are marked 9CT. The earrings are unhallmarked, consistent with the period; there are illegible stamps on the backs of the pendants, which test as 15-carat gold. The emeralds have also been tested.

• Era: Georgian, c.early 1800s, with later screws.

• Size: 3.2 x 1.9cm.

• Weight: 4.5g.
