Beautiful Georgian flat-cut garnet teardrop earrings backed with nine-carat rose gold.
Gemstones were usually foil-backed up till the mid-19th century to make them reflect the candlelight better. Brilliant cut gemstones didn't appear until later and the old cuts didn't sparkle as much as modern stones so it gave them a little help. Practically, it just means you should keep them away from water to avoid it leaking behind the stones and damaging the foil - don't wear them to go swimming or do the washing-up!

PLEASE NOTE! All items are vintage or antique and as such show light general wear appropriate to their age. Bear in mind photos are very magnified and flaws which can be seen in the pictures are often imperceptible to the naked eye in real life. I always do my very best to point out any additional flaws, but please look carefully at all the photos as they are an important part of the listing - and do ask if you have any questions!
